One Direction star Louis Tomlinson will have to wait up to one year to find out if he will be charged over an alleged attack on a paparazzi at Los Angeles International Airport on March 3.

He was arrested and bailed after the confrontation where it is alleged he pushed a male photographer. The 25-year-old singer was returning from a holiday in Las Vegas with his girlfriend, Eleanor Calder, at the time of the alleged incident.

The case was due to be heard on March 29, but the hearing was postponed and now prosecutors say it could take much longer.

"No decision has yet been reached in that matter. It is still under review," said a spokesman for the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office.

"Our office has up to one year to file charges from the original incident."

A lawyer for the boyband star, Martin Singer, blamed photographers at the time and said they had "provoked" Tomlinson.

"This is not the first or last time that a paparazzi has created an altercation with a celebrity," Singer said.

"While the altercation was going on with the paparazzi, three other individuals were attacking his girlfriend during this incident and he came to her defence."

The arrest record shows that Tomlinson was held under citizen’s arrest and the alleged offence was classed as a misdemeanour.

Tomlinson is currently working on solo material while One Direction are on hiatus.
