Irish author Anne Enright has been shortlisted for the 2017 International Dublin Literary Award, the world's most valuable annual prize for a single work of fiction published in English.

Laureate for Fiction, Enright is nominated for the €100,000 award for The Green Road. In all, there are 10 novels on the 2017 shortlist for the International Dublin Literary Award, formerly the IMPAC.

The shortlist includes six works in translation with Angola, Austria, Mexico and Mozambique among the countries represented.

The Green Road traces 25 years in the life of an Irish family, beginning in 1980. In the book, Rosaleen has taken to the bed because her son Dan has declared his intention to become a priest.

The story takes a leap to 2005, at which point dramatic changes have occurred in the family.

The Green Road has already won the 2016 Kerry Group Irish Fiction Award and was the Eason Irish Novel of the Year at the 2015 Bord Gáis Energy Irish Book Awards. It also featured on the longlist for the Man Booker Prize and the shortlist for the Baileys Women's Prize for Fiction.

Nominations for the International Dublin Literary Award are made by library systems in cities around the world and the award is sponsored by Dublin City Council.

The winner will be announced on June 21.
