Composer/music producer Andrew Lloyd Webber has revealed that he saw Rihanna performing while he was on holiday in Barbados 12 years ago, but did not sign the singer because he wouldn’t know ‘what to do with her.’
On Good Morning Britain, the 68-year-old composer recalled seeing the pop superstar singing in a hotel in Barbados.
“She was singing with a sort of karaoke band at a hotel I was staying at, Sandy Lane in Barbados – this must have been about 12 years ago. I remember talking to Nigel Wright, who’s sort of my music guy, and we were having a drink and we thought: she’s very, very good.’
Presenter Piers Morgan asked the music producer if he had ever considered how much money he would now have if he had signed the singer that evening.
‘I don’t think in those terms,’ Webber replied. ‘But if I did, let me put it this way, it’s not a story I’m proud of.’
