Co Tyrone singer and viral sensation Donna Taggart has said that she's "taken aback" by the success of her song Jealous Of The Angels which has now clocked up an astonishing 63 million views on Facebook.

The Omagh-born singer uploaded the video for the single in early August, and it quickly started racking up millions of views.

The viral success of the video propelled her album, Celtic Lady Vol. 2, to No. 1 in the iTunes USA Easy Listening Chart and also to the top in seven other countries, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK.

The singer and mother-of-two told RTÉ Entertainment that she was "taken aback" by the song's success, which was written by Nashville-based country singer Jenn Bostic.

Taggart credits the song's worldwide success to its universal appeal, saying: "When she wrote the song, the lyrics are very raw and very emotive.

"I think she did something special when she wrote it - she put into words how a lot of people feel when they experience grief and loss and I think that's the reason that it has touched so many people.

"It just so happens that it has universal appeal."

Taggart added that she is "very humbled" that people from around the world take the time to get in touch to tell her how much it means to them and said that the song's success has "been an adjustment, but a brilliant adjustment."

Although she had "absolutely no idea" the song would take off like it did, Taggart did say that it had a special place in heart from the first time she heard it.

"When I recorded the song I knew it was very special, I heard it when I was out and about shopping and it made me stop and I think when a song has an ability to do that it's very special," she said.

"But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would have such huge success with it so I'm very grateful to Jenn Bostic for having the opportunity to record it and the success I've had with it.

"It's brilliant, it's wonderful and I'm very taken aback but it. We'll see where it goes!"

Taggart will embark on her first solo tour on February 9, 2017 at the Cork Opera House. For further information on her upcoming tour dates, click here.
