Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them star Eddie Redmayne has been honoured by Britain's Queen Elizabeth at a ceremony at Windsor Castle.

The 34-year-old British actor, best known for his Academy Award winning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything, received an OBE for services to drama as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The actor was accompanied by his parents and his wife, Hannah Bagshawe, at the ceremony. The couple had their first child back in June, a daughter named Iris.

On being presented with the honour by the Queen, Redmayne said: "It was absolutely wonderful. Also being with such extraordinary people, the whole experience is incredibly humbling and also getting to be in Windsor Castle is breathtaking, around Christmas as well with all the decorations."

Asked what the monarch said to him prior to receiving his award, the actor said: "She was asking me whether I prefer film or theatre, and asked me if I enjoyed it.

"I'm very lucky to do something I am passionate about - I'm very grateful to do something I love because it is a rare thing."

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, the big screen adaption of J.K Rowling's best-selling book of the same name, has so far grossed over €450 million at the global box office.
