Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar will be among the guest presenters on RTÉ Radio 1's popular Late Date music show this Christmas.
GAA pundit Joe Brolly and comedian Deirdre O’Kane will also guest present the show, which is aired between 11.25pm and 2.00pm on weekday nights and is usually hosted by the mellifluous-toned and music mad Cathal Murray.
RTÉ has said that the dates haven’t been finalised but that Mr Varadkar’s stint is thought to be on December 27. They added that the minister's appearance on the show is voluntary.
Mr Varadkar (37) appeared on RTÉ radio on Thursday to talk about his temporary new portfolio as a DJ and he told Kathryn Thomas that he hasn’t decided on his musical selections yet.
“I haven’t worked out all the details yet but I’m going fill a gap during your Christmas schedule. I’m looking forward to it, I always like to branch out,” he said.
However the Minister may have hinted at his possible taste in music when he attended Electric Picnic earlier this year to enjoy acts such as Chemical Brothers and LCD Soundsystem.
It was his second time at the festival and at the time he told the Irish MIrror, “I go to a load of concerts but I came last year and it was the first time I came and stayed over night. I’d such a good time last year that I said I had to come back.”
Could we be hearing some block rocking beats from the minister on RTÉ Radio 1 over Christmas?
