Singer Robbie Williams has revealed that he gave away one of his Brit Awards to Man United footballer Wayne Rooney to cheer him up.

The singer already had seventeen of the accolades but, according to a new interview, he was quite partial of giving them away as presents.

"I've given them away. Dad's got one, my mum's got a couple, Wayne Rooney's got one..." he blurted out to the Radio Times.

His family you might understand, but why the generosity to the Man U and England star? Well it seems, Robbie was a bit 'under the weather' and was feeling sorry for the player, who had been injured in a match

"I was stoned and Wayne got injured in a match, and I shouted to my manager (in a slurred voice): 'Michael, will you send a Brit to Wayne Rooney... Tell him to get better from me...'

"It was like those shopping decisions you make on Amazon when you're on Ambien [a sleeping pill]. But it was well intentioned, and he sent me a pair of signed football boots. So, good deal!"

Although the singer has been crowned the most successful British solo act in the charts, he admitted that he's struggled to get some big names to work with him as his star has waned slightly over the past few years.

"Last year I tried to work with Bruno Mars - didn't hear anything back. Tried to work with [Swedish hitmaker] Max Martin - didn't hear anything back. They literally didn't return my calls.

"Then I met Harry Styles in an airport. 'Oh, you're writing, Harry? Great, who with?' He goes: 'Well, I just spent a week with Bruno Mars, and I'm about to spend a week with Max Martin."'

Williams said he tried to put on a generous face and added: "'You're the new me. Good luck!"'

Robbie will be playing at Dublin's Aviva Stadium next June and recently told fans here, "You'll recognise some of the songs. I'll be dancing like a drunk dad at a wedding."

He also made a very energetic appearance on The Late Late Show and received a rousing reception from the audience, helped in no small part by his rendition of Joe Dolan's classic, Good Looking Woman, during his entrance.

Later he explained to Ryan Tubridy all about the Joe Dolan connection.
