She divided the critics and the viewing public and now Honey G has finally been eliminated from The X Factor just shy of reaching the semi-finals.
The controversial rapper, who was effectively the novelty act in this year's competition, was sent home from the competition by the judges after a sing off with boy band 5 After Midnight.
The boys' mentor Louis Walsh along with Nicole Scherzinger and eventually Simon Cowell all chose to save the band, despite the pleas of Honey's mentor, Sharon Osbourne, to keep her in the competition as she had "the edge on everyone".
"Listen, against all odds, Honey has been here week after week . . . She's here and she's a fighter," Osbourne urged.
Cowell told the rapper: "You've got guts. You really have. You have taken so much and you've just soldiered on. And on and on and on but I have to do what I think the public would expect me to do in this position".
Last week there were howls of protest after Cowell chose to save the 'North Weezy' rapper following the sing off with Scottish singer Ryan Lawrie, saying "For me, the one who felt they wanted to stay in more, based on that, was Honey G."
Honey G's success in the competition has baffled many viewers, with a petition being set up to have her booted off the show during the early rounds of the series.
Her continued presence could also have had an impact on the winner's single that has reportedly been written by none other than Ed Sheeran.
On Sunday night's sing off, Honey G gave a upbeat version of Tupac Shakur's California Love which featured her trademark "When I say honey, you say G" chant.
Following her elimination, the rapper said it had been a "completely life-changing experience", thanking the judges and The X Factor team. Honey said she had loved the experience. "Everybody who said that I could not make it here, I'm standing here right now, X Factor."
She had found herself in the bottom two after a dramatic night in which the stage was invaded during her performance.
Honey had just finished rapping MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This when a man rushed the stage, grabbed her shoulders and tried to take her microphone. A prankster group called Trollstation later took credit for the stunt.
However in time honoured, "that's not the last you'll hear of me" X Factor tradition, Honey G revealed afterwards that a single is already in the works and said she hopes to secure a record deal with Cowell's label, Syco, following her stint on the show.
