Luck of the Irish as duo Carry On in The Apprentice

An eye rolling Karen Brady may have referred to it as Carry On Up the Aquarium but the first task on The Apprentice with Irishman Dillon St Paul as project manager was a resounding success for himself and fellow Irish contestant Gráinne McCoy.

Dillon's Team Titan romped to victory in the challenge which saw both teams asked to organise exclusive late night events at two of London's biggest tourist attractions, The London Aquarium and Madame Tussauds.

Titan were given the aquarium as a location, and despite the night being billed as an underwater cabaret extravaganza (it was really just two ladies singing show tunes in mermaid costumes) the team sold enough tickets and impressed their guests with the range of food and entertainment on offer.

Not even the sight of Dillon dressing up as a sailor and bursting into song was enough to deter them (he did that alot).

Thankfully for him, team-mate Alana was on hand to keep him on track as he started to loose sight of the task and got carried away with the decorations for the venue.

Fellow Irish contestant Gráinne McCoy was also on the winning team, though she might wait a while to thank Dillon after he made her stand outside the venue dressing as mermaid flogging tickets alongside an equally mortified looking Courtney.

However things were all at sea on the rival team - Nebula - which was beset with problems from the outset in particular over ticket pricing which fell from £65 at one stage down to £21 and even then there was confusion over what guests were entitled to.

Their Mannequin challenge (ish) party at Madame Tussauds was all a bit lifeless and beset by rows over dodgy canapes and whether some guests were entitled to hot food with their tickets.

It all culminated in an embarrassing stand-up row between Paul Sullivan and Jessica Cunningham in front of everyone at the venue which ultimately proved to be fatal.

After being brought back into the boardroom Paul's angry tone and repeated outbursts to Lord Sugar were enough to sign his P45 and he was duly fired. It probably didn't help that the two other team members he had brought back with him, Jessica and Frances, were bawling their eyes out.

Afterwards Paul admitted he deserved to be fired after "hanging himself" in the boardroom.

"I think the cumulative effects of the day and the night and what had gone wrong had kind of taken its toll and then I think that was just compounded really at the last point when Frances sort of turned on me and chucked me under the bus in the boardroom", he said.

"If I wanted to try and save myself. I'm not sure the tears were suited to the boardroom. I was not overly impressed with people crying to kind of save their position."

The marketing agency owner also said he was "disappointed" in himself for his outburst towards Lord Sugar.

"Do I think I should have gone? Part of me says no but part of me has to accept that maybe on the day you hung yourself and it's my own fault. I didn't do myself many favours by the way I spoke to Lord Sugar. I know better than that."

He added that his "hot head" attitude towards Lord Sugar in the boardroom would "go down in Apprentice history as a moment to remember. When an idiot hanged himself by talking to Lord Sugar like that."
