ITV is cancelling two major drama series as both DCI Banks and Brief Encounters are the latest shows to get the chop.
Based on Peter Robinson's crime novels, DCI Banks starred Stephen Tompkinson in the titular role and has run for five seasons since it debuted in 2010.
The most recent run of episodes concluded just last month, killing off long-running character Annie Cabbot, played by Andrea Lowe.
"After five series, ITV has taken the decision not to recommission DCI Banks," the UK broadcaster said in a statement.
"We're grateful to the production team at Left Bank Pictures for creating the world of DCI Banks and the actors Stephen Tompkinson, Andrea Lowe and Caroline Catz for the commitment and dedication they've shown to their roles."
Brief Encounters is a more recent arrival as it launched just last July, but the 1980s' set drama has also been dropped.
The show starred Sophie Rundle, Angela Griffin, Penelope Wilton and Sharon Rooney as four women whose lives change forever when they start selling Ann Summers lingerie and sex toys.
"As a broadcaster we seek to commission a diverse range of drama and as a consequence continually refresh our drama portfolio," ITV said.
"We'd like to thank the writers Oriane Messina and Fay Rusling, the production team at CPL Productions and the Brief Encounters cast for their commitment and hard work in creating the drama."
It's not all change at ITV as they've decided to bring back the rebooted Cold Feet for a second run, while the Jenna Coleman-starring period drama Victoria will also get a sophomore season.
