The first full trailer for the Trainspotting sequel has been released, and it looks like the reunion of director Danny Boyle and his cast has been worth the two-decade wait.
Reprising Underworld anthem Born Slippy, the trailer gives us a new version of star Ewan McGregor's iconic 'Choose Life' speech as his character Mark Renton returns home to Edinburgh for the first time in 20 years.

There, he is reunited with Spud (Ewen Bremner), Sick Boy (Jonny Lee Miller), Begbie (Robert Carlyle) and old flame Diane (Kelly Macdonald) for a mayhem-filled story that is said to be loosely based on Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh's follow-up book Porno.

"Other old friends are waiting too," says the synopsis accompanying the promo. "Sorrow, loss, joy, vengeance, hatred, friendship, love, longing, fear, regret, diamorphine, self-destruction and mortal danger - they are all lined up to welcome him, ready to join the dance."

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment earlier this year while doing interviews for the thriller Our Kind of Traitor, McGregor promised that the sequel would be "great". "The script is really fantastic and we're all very happy with it," he said.

McGregor's return as Renton will be the first time he has worked with Boyle since 1997's A Life Less Ordinary. The two fell out when McGregor was passed over for the lead in The Beach in favour of Leonardo DiCaprio in 2000.
T2: Trainspotting is released in cinemas on January 27, 2017.
