Dornan, Fassbender among British indie film nominees

Jamie Dornan and Michael Fassbender are among the nominees for this year's British Independent Film Awards. 

Dornan is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance in WWII true story Anthropoid, while Fassbender is shortlisted for Best Actor for his role in crime drama Trespass Against Us.

Fassbender has won Best Actor at the awards on two previous occasions: for Shame in 2011 and Hunger in 2008. Trespass Against Us is due in cinemas next March.

There is strong Irish representation across the various award categories this year. Cork director Billy O'Brien is nominated alongside his co-writer Christopher Hyde for the screenplay to O'Brien's supernatural thriller I Am Not a Serial Killer. The film's stars, Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd and Max Records (Where the Wild Things Are), are also nominated in the acting categories.

Belfast-based writers John Cairns and Michael McCartney are nominated in the Debut Screenwriter category for their work on Northern Irish psychological thriller A Patch of Fog.

Dublin cinematographer Robbie Ryan is nominated in the Outstanding Achievement in Craft category for his work on Andrea Arnold's road movie odyssey American Honey - one of six nods for the film and Ryan's fourth British Independent Film Awards nomination since 2009.

Ken Loach's new film I, Daniel Blake leads the nominations this year with seven. The winners will be announced on December 4 in London.
