Actress Barbara Windsor - aka Peggy Mitchell in Eastenders -  will be played by four actresses in the BBC biopic on her life which is about to begin filming.

In the BBC ’s feature-length special about the actress's glittering career, Jaime Winstone and Samantha Spiro will play the actress from her twenties to her fifties. Two child actors will play the star as both schoolgirl and teenager.

Jaime Winstone, 31-year-old daughter of actor Ray Winstone has welcomed the Babs role, declaring the part to be a “complete honour”.

48-year old Samantha Spiro has played the iconic actress before, in the television production of Cor Blimey! and also in a number of stage productions.

“I am so excited to step into her national treasure shoes, " declared Spiro, speaking to The Mirror. "I have always been a huge fan of Barbara and to be able to play her throughout this stage in her life is gonna be very special. I can’t wait.”

Windsor told the Sunday People yesterday that she would like Elton John to play on her 80th birthday, which falls in 2017. There would be a certain synchronicity about that, should it happen -  the actress leapt out of a cake, dressed as a pink fairy, on the occasion of Elton's 60th birthday party.
