Saoirse Ronan has started filming the big screen adaptation of Ian McEwan's novel On Chesil Beach, in Dorset.
The two-time Oscar nominee will take the female lead in the movie, which began shooting in Chesil Beach, Dorset this week.
A spokesperson for the production told the Dorset Echo that Ronan and her co-star Billy Howle were filming scenes in the area on Wednesday and Thursday.
Scenes will also be filmed in London and at Pinewood Studios.
It was announced in February that Ronan, who was most recently nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for her role in Brooklyn, would take the role of Florence in the film.
On Chesil Beach was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 2007 and tells the story of Florence and Edward, a couple who spend their honeymoon in a small hotel on the Dorset seashore, at Chesil Beach, in 1962.
Over the course of their stay they reflect on their very different upbringings and look at what the future has in store in a touching story that deals with how misunderstanding and fear can shape your life.
Ronan previously starred in an adaptation of McEwan's novel Atonement and her role as Briony Tallis earned her first Oscar nomination, for Best Supporting Actress at the 2008 ceremony.
On Chesil Beach will mark the feature film directorial debut of The Hollow Crown's Dominic Cooke, and is being produced by the team behind the Cate Blanchett-starring Carol; Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley.
Ronan previously worked with Karlsen and Woolley on 2012's Byzantium.
"It’s an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project," Karlsen said.
On Chesil Beach is slated for release in 2017.
