Finding Dory has passed the $1 billion mark on the global box office, following Toy Story 3 to become Pixar’s second billion-dollar release.

Starring the voice of Ellen DeGeneres, the follow-up to Finding Nemo saw the friendly but forgetful blue tang fish begin a search for her long-lost parents.

As for Pixar's owners, Walt Disney Studios, this is their fourth billion-dollar release in the past 12 months alone and its 12th ever. Finding Dory is now the fifth most successful animated film in cinema history.

Released 13 years after its predecessor, Finding Nemo, Dory has overtaken it in terms of box office, as Nemo generated a hefty $940M, although the difference would be minimal when inflation is taken into account.
