Jamie Dornan had a "real surprise" when his dad made a cameo appearance on the crime drama The Fall.
Professor Jim Dornan appeared in Sunday's episode of the crime drama, and apparently his famous son, who plays serial killer Paul Spector in the series, had no idea about the cameo role.
Jim Dornan, a retired obstetrician and gynaecologist, told The Belfast Telegraph about how he got involved, saying: "It was the writer and producer Allan Cubitt's idea.
"I met Alan socially and he asked me to take part in The Fall. Jamie had finished filming and had no idea I was going to be in it. It came as a real surprise when he found out."
Jim played Policing Board member John Porter in Sunday night's episode, the second of series three, and appeared in a scene with John Lynch's Chief Constable where they discussed the ongoing case of the Belfast Strangler.
He had one line to say at a Policing Board meeting which was: "Can the Assistant Chief Constable please provide us with an update on the progress of the Operation Music Man task-force?"
However, Jim admitted that it was "quite a difficult line to say", adding that he he needed a few takes to satisfy the director.
"John Lynch was lovely - he was very helpful," Jim said. "He had kind words when I got it right and smiled sweetly when I got it wrong. I really enjoyed it and it was a very interesting morning. I would say it was awe-inspiring.
"I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved in the production and the detail they went into to get things right."
The 68-year-old grandad said he thought that his scene would be scrapped altogether, admitting: "I thought my scene would end up on the cutting room floor!"
Jim has had experience treading the boards in the past with an amateur drama group The Clarence Players, but he gave up acting around the time Jamie was born.
"I certainly would have considered acting as a career if medicine hadn’t worked out," he added.
The Fall continues on Sunday on RTÉ One at 9.30pm.
