Irish X Factor hopefuls Janet Grogan and Niall Sexton have thanked their fans for their support through their journeys on the singing competition after failing to secure places on the live shows.

22-year-old Niall Sexton from Derry was not chosen to go through to the live shows section of the show by judge Nicole Scherzinger.

Scherzinger was joined in the Judge's Houses by Calvin Harris, and both were impressed by Sexton's rendition of Spice Girls hit 2Become1.

"I love him", Scherzinger said following the performance.

Harris said he also loved it, hailing the performance as "fantastic", but admitting that he is worried about Sexton's "stage presence".

When it came time to make her decision on the three acts she would be moving forward with, Scherzinger opted for Matt Terry, Ryan Lawrie and Freddy Parker.

Taking to Twitter, Sexton thanked his supporters saying, "This is the time where I need all your support guys !!! Love the support but it has to continue. Thank you all love you xxx"

Dubliner Janet Grogan was also disappointed when Sharon Osbourne failed to bring her through to the next stage of the competition.

Grogan performed Duran Duran's Ordinary World, and guest judge Robbie Williams likened her to Adele.

While breaking the news to Grogan that she had not made it through to her top three, Osbourne praised her "very distinctive" voice but revealed that she felt there was a "disconnect".

Grogan previously took part in the 2014 series of The X Factor where she fell into Simon Cowell's category. Cowell chose not to bring Grogan through to Judge's Houses.

After the show aired on Sunday night, Grogan shared a video message to Instagram thanking fans for their support and assuring them that she would "not be going anywhere."

Grogan also tweeted that she had an amazing week with Osbourne and the other finalists in the Over 25 category in Los Angeles, saying that she had made "friends for life."

Osbourne chose to bring Saara Aalto, Relley C and Honey G through to the live shows.

The inclusion of rapper Honey G in the show's final 12 has caused outrage on social media with some users calling for the show to be cancelled and others promising to boycott the rest of the series.

X Factor fans were equally furious that Louis Walsh put through another 'novelty act' on Saturday night after he gave colourful duo Ottavio and Bradley one of the three coveted spots in his Groups category.

“It’s like Jedward and Wagner all over again,” one fan declared on social media.

The pair were described as a "very big risk" by the Mayo man and later added that "I may regret this decision, I probably will".
