Niall Horan fans around the globe are jumping for joy after the One Direction star dropped his first solo single.

The 23-year-old Mullingar man has set the Twittersphere alight by sharing This Town online along with an accompanying video.

Taking to his social media accounts, Horan posted: "Been workin in the studio, wanted to share this song I just wrote with u guys. thank you for always being there".

Fans were quick to praise Horan for his stripped-back track and heartfelt lyrics, with some making reference to his 1D days by saying it was the Best Song Ever.

Twitter was also abuzz on Wednesday evening after Radio Disney revealed that they would be playing Horan's single on their station.

The now-deleted post read: “Listen to Radio Disney RIGHT NOW to hear Niall Horan’s brand new single This Town,” they wrote.

“And stay tuned to hear from Niall.”

Eagle-eyed fans, who were quick to screengrab the tweet, have speculated that it was a scheduled post that went live prematurely.

Many loyal Directioners were quick to spot that Horan is now an official solo artist on Apple Music and has a verified Spotify account.

It seems Horan's music career is definitely heading in the right direction, with
Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes confirming that he will be making music with the Irish singer.

Speaking on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Wednesday, 18-year-old Mendes said he is up for working with Horan, while the chat show king confessed that Horan is his "favourite Irish man in the world".

As always, 1D fans got very creative and passionate at the thoughts of Mr Horan releasing his first single.

Horan reportedly snubbed his X Factor mentor Simon Cowell by refusing to sign with his Syco record label, and instead reportedly signed a lucrative deal with rival label, Universal Music.

One Direction are currently on an indefinite hiatus, and Horan's bandmates are all ticking away at other projects.

Liam Payne has signed a solo deal with Capitol UK, while, as well as his solo deal, Harry Styles has recently finished filming his role in Christopher Nolan's war epic Dunkirk.

Louis Tomlinson has yet to sign a solo deal, but is believed to be planning to focus on his own record label during the band's hiatus.
