Jamie Dornan has said he is feeling "a little bit of devastation" now that his time appearing on The Fall has come to an end.

The Northern Irish actor has played serial killer Paul Spector on the series since 2013 and will be sad to say goodbye to the friends he made on set.

"There's a little bit of devastation for me, I have to say," Dornan told Digital Spy when asked about leaving the series.

"It's a job that means a lot to me, and a character that I really love playing, and a group of people that have become family over four and a half years, so it's very bittersweet," he said.

"It's like a support blanket that someone's taking away from you – quite abruptly."

The Fall creator Allan Cubitt recently hinted that this might not be the final series of the drama, while confirming it will be the last viewers will see of Dornan.

"I don't know that it is the final series," Cubitt said. "But I don't think I'm giving much away in saying it's Jamie's last season."

The Fall returns to RTÉ One on Sunday, September 25 at 9.30pm and will also air on BBC Two on Thursday, September 29 at 9pm.
