Jimmy Fallon has defended his controversial interview with Donald Trump after viewers criticized him for being "too soft" on the Republican presidential candidate.
Trump appeared on The Tonight Show last week, where Fallon didn't challenge the politician on any of his divisive comments, instead asking him if he could ruffle his hair.
Fallon has now commented on the negative feedback in a video published by TMZ, saying he thought Trump was "a good sport" and joking: "Have you seen my show? I'm never too hard on anyone."
The host avoided the question about which candidate he felt would better defend New York City, saying, "Just get out there and vote. Everyone just vote, vote, vote."
Viewers were unimpressed with Fallon's interview with Trump as many thought it "humanized" the politician and his controversial views.
Incredibly disappointed by exposure major networks are giving Trump in exchange for ratings. His hate ideology is no joke. #FallonTonight

Jimmy Fallon blew it tonight. Late night comedians used be the court jesters of culture. Humanizing a xenophobe is not okay. #FallonTonight

"Wow, Donald Trump went on Jimmy Fallon, acted cute, & let Jimmy mess up his hair! I guess that erases the years of Trump's hate speech!"
