Ahead of their first performance together on Strictly Come Dancing this weekend, Laura Whitmore has told professional partner Giovanni Pernice that she has "control issues" and "likes to be in charge".

The BBC cameras joined the duo on their first day of training, with the presenter comparing the experience to being in hit TV series Fame.

"First day at school, it's usually not that easy," said Pernice. "But because she's a good student I want already [to] do something difficult, and she is doing really well."

Whitmore said she was having trouble with one move that was "supposed to look sexy, or supposed to look like not what I'm doing".

"I'm just thinking, 'Don't drop me. Please don't drop me'," she admitted.

"I'm not very good at letting someone else have control," the Bray native added.

She returned to the subject during training, telling a bemused Pernice: "I have control issues, Gio. I like to be in charge."

In her latest blog for the Glamour website published on Monday, Whitmore said she was trying to deal with a swollen ankle and more "sweating and sleepless nights" after receiving a second dance to learn for Strictly

"Everyone gets through this weekend, thank God. So that's something!" she joked.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One at 9pm on Friday and 6:30pm on Saturday.
