Speaking to Ryan Tubridy on last night's Late Late Show, Bear Grylls saluted County Clare coastguard volunteer Caitriona Lucas who lost her life earlier this week.

The 41-year-old mother of died on Monday after the rescue boat in which she was searching for a missing person capsized off the Clare coast.

"It is the ultimate sacrifice, and it is the unsung heroes, " declared the popular TV adventurer, " regular people giving up to help other people. And it is the magic of volunteering . .you're doing it from the goodness of your heart and, as you say, all of our hearts go out to her family, and what an incredible lady. The thing about that is legacy goes on because of what she has done.
