TG4 soap Ros na Rún is bidding a poignant farewell to original cast member Joe Steve Ó Neachtain after 21 years on the show.
Ó Neachtain has played the much-loved Peadar Ó Conghaile since the very first episode of the Irish language soap aired on RTÉ in 1992, and will depart the show in Thursday night's episode.
Warning: Spoiler alert!
In a very moving scene at the Ionad Pobail, Peadar will draw his last breath after an emotional dance with his on-screen wife of many years, Máire. The village residents will come to a standstill tonight as the news breaks of Peadar's passing.
Peadar has had many memorable storylines over the past two decades, including the tragic death of his and Máire's only son Liam in a fire, and the shock discovery of an abandoned baby on their doorstep last Christmas Day.
Series Producer Deirdre Ní Fhlatharta said: "Joe Steve has made an outstanding contribution to Ros na Rún over the last two decades. He was an inspiration to work with over the years, and we are truly honoured to have had the pleasure of working with him for over 20 years on the show.
"His warm and friendly manner was so welcoming on set and he would always take new actors under his wing. His character Peadar was loved by everyone, from loyal viewers to the cast and crew of Ros na Rún. He will be greatly missed both on and off the screen."
Peadar's last episode on Ros na Rún airs on TG4 tonight at 8.30pm, watch a clip from the show below.
