Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie has signed a first-look deal with Warner Bros. to to develop and produce feature films, including her Harley Quinn spinoff.

The 26-year-old Australian actress will executive produce the spinoff based on her hugely popular, bat-wielding character, which will also feature other female heroines and villains from the DC universe.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, she is also set to star in and executive produce an adaptation of Dean N. Jensen's Queen of the Air, based on the true story of renowned trapeze artist and circus performer Leitzel.

The first look deal with the studio, which was first rumoured earlier this year, underlines Warner Bros.' focus on female-driven storytelling.

The first female-centric superhero movie will be Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman, who first debuted the character in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The film will be directed by Patty Jenkins, director of Charlize Theron's critically acclaimed Monster, and is scheduled to be released in June, 2017.
