Superstar DJ Calvin Harris has opened up about the end of his 15-month relationship with Taylor Swift, admitting that "all hell broke loose".

The Scottish DJ said that he found the media circus surrounding his break-up with the Shake It Off star extremely challenging.

Speaking to British GQ, Harris said: "It's very difficult when something I consider so personal plays out very publicly.

"The aftermath of the relationship was way more heavily publicized than the relationship itself."

The 32-year-old star said that he and Swift were "very careful" to keep their romance private during their relationship.

"When we were together, we were very careful for it not to be a media circus," he said. "She respected my feelings in that sense. I'm not good at being a celebrity.

"But when it ended, all hell broke loose."

After the A-list couple called it quits on their relationship, Harris had an uncharacteristic Twitter outburst in relation to Swift's involvement with his hit song This Is What You Came For.

He now explains that his actions were, in part, due to the overwhelming media attention.

"Now I see that Twitter thing as a result of me succumbing to pressure," he explained. "It took me a minute to realise that none of that matters. I'm a positive guy."

The Summer star added that his break-up from Swift, who subsequently embarked on a high-profile romance with British actor Tom Hiddleston, was the right thing to happen.

"For both of us it was the wrong situation. It clearly wasn't right, so it ended, but all of the stuff that happened afterwards..."

Harris's full interview can be read in the October issue of British GQ magazine.
