The mud has hardly hardened after this year's festival - but tickets for Electric Picnic 2017 go on sale from next Friday September 9.

"They're going to go on sale on Friday morning [September 9] at nine o'clock," EP organiser Melvin Benn announced at a press conference this (Sunday) afternoon.

The loyalty principle remains the same as for this year with the early bird deal for tickets, though he says the loyalty tickets will be increased by €5.

"We definitely don't want to make it any bigger, absolutely staying exactly the same: 55,000 people," he added, when asked about increasing the capacity.

As for the 2016 event, he said he was "really pleased this year. The traffic was brilliant . . . everybody that wanted to be in on Friday was in by seven o'clock. Last year they were still queuing at 11 o'clock at night.

"If you remember we had to get Grace Jones in on the back of a GardaÍ motor cycle."

Benn also added that he was very happy hat queues had been reduced at the various food stalls around the Stradbally site.

As for his personal favourites, he cited a couple of highlights before praising the RTÉ Concert Orchestra's performance.

"Chemical Brothers on Friday night was pretty amazing," he said. "I thought it was an extraordinary set. Cathy Davey doing the launch of the album on the Hazelwood there on Friday night – that was unbelievable.

"Anachronica any time after one o'clock in the morning is insane . . .

"The RTÉ Orchestra! Jesus! That was unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable. I don't know how many people saw that.  That was just fantastic.

"RTÉ took a bit of a chance on it, nobody knew whether it would be the right thing or the wrong thing . . . it was definitely the right thing. It was amazing. Hopefully that'll come back."
