Vogue Williams teased her new series On The Edge

Vogue Williams has said she hopes her upcoming new RTÉ2 series will educate people about transgender issues.

Vogue Williams - On The Edge was launched as part of the new RTÉ autumn season of programming last week, and it sees the presenter investigating the issues affecting the lives of her generation, including drugs culture, transgenderism, online bullying, and more.

Speaking to RTÉ Entertainment, Vogue admitted that she never realised how little she knew about the transgender community before filming began.

"Every topic is quite important that I chose, particularly transgender," she said. "I do a lot for the LGBT community and I didn’t realise how little I knew about the T part."

"I think people aren't educated enough on transgender issues and I learned so much from it. I had an amazing experience and I met some amazing people and it was really eye-opening and I think, if anything, it's going to help people understand the transgender community a little bit more," she added.

Vogue revealed that the most shocking part of her experience making the series came with the episode on addiction.

"I think, with the addiction episode, that was the biggest surprise because obviously we were focusing on the hard drugs you hear about; cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, and in actual fact, one of the most dangerous ones is the synthetic drugs you can buy on the internet," Vogue explained.

"I could get them tomorrow if I wanted, and they're so available to young people and they're used a lot on the streets as well and they're just frightening, it's frightening what they do to people."
