Beyoncé was the big winner at this year's MTV Video Music Awards, taking home eight gongs in total, including Video of the Year for her single Formation.
Formation not only earned the singer the top award of the night, but also awards in five other categories; Best Pop Video, Best Choreography, Best Direction, Best Editing and Best Cinematography.
The video for her single Hold Up also saw Beyoncé earn the trophy for Best Female Video, with Lemonade securing her the award for Breakthrough Long Form Video.
Taking to the stage to accept the Video of the Year award, Beyoncé thanked her "incredible" husband Jay Z and dedicated the award to the people of New Orleans.
Another big winner on the night was Rihanna, who took home the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award; the MTV equivalent of a lifetime achievement honour.
Drake presented Rihanna with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award
The 28-year-old singer was presented with the award by Drake, her long-time collaborator and rumoured boyfriend.
Drake told the crowd, "She's someone I've been in love with since I was 22 years old. She's one of my best friends in the world. All of my adult life I've looked up to her, even though she's younger than me."
During her acceptance speech Rihanna thanked her family and friends for supporting her through her 11-year career.
"My success started as a dream, but now my success is not my own. It's my family, my fans, my country... It's women, it's black women," she said.
Over the course of the show, which took place in New York's Madison Square Garden, Rihanna performed four medleys of her biggest hits.
