Romance is blooming in the first trailer for Southside With You, a new movie which charts the relationship between a young Barack Obama and his future wife, Michelle.

It's an everyday story of boy meets girl, boy goes on to become most powerful man in the world and the film is inspired by accounts of the First Couple’s very first date.

The directorial debut of Richard Tanne, Southside With You sees Parker Sawyers play smooth-talking first-year law associate Barack convincing very reluctant attorney Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) to go on a day-long trip in and around Chicago’s South Side in 1989.

There's a visit to a gallery, ice cream and some rousing lecture hall debates that hint at future political ambitions.

Some observers have suggested that the film has more than a touch of Before Sunrise, Richard Linklater's romance starring Ethan Hawke and Julie Delphy.
