Things are about to get very lighthearted on RTÉ Radio 1 from this weekend. A new hour Comedy Showhouse Hour kicks off this Saturday with Sean Hughes hosting a brand new panel show called Don’t Quote Me!
Hughes presides over two teams, captained by fellow comedians Andrew Maxwell and Fiona Looney, as they sift through a selection of quotes.
The show was recorded in front of a live audience at Dublin's Project Arts Theatre earlier this year and the guests on this week's opener are comic Al Porter and legendary DJ Dave Fanning.
The second half of the hour will feature a variety of acts and contributors, including Deirdre O’Kane, Amy Huberman and Aindrias de Staic. First up: The Nualas Greatest Hits.
Touring since 1995, the ladies have spent this year on a massive 21st birthday tour. Nuala, Nuala and Nuala are promising to offer views in words and in song on the "harsh, yet glamorous reality of life, love, showbiz and womanhood in 2016".
Billy McGrath, from the strand's producers Sideline, says: "The Comedy Showhouse Hour is the first ever slot dedicated to home-grown comedy on RTÉ Radio 1 and the station has to be applauded for their initiative and support."
The Comedy Showhouse Hour begins at 6pm on RTÉ Radio 1 on Saturday evening next August 27 and will also be available on podcast here at rte.ie/entertainment.
