Metallica have premiered Hardwired, the first song from their new double album Hardwired... To Self-Destruct - and the track has more than a nod to their 1986 thrash classic Battery.
The 12-track album, the follow-up to 2008's Death Magnetic, will be released on November 18. The band conceded it had been "a long time coming" and described the record as "the next phase of our journey".
The tracklisting is: Hardwired, Atlas, Rise!, Now That We're Dead, Moth Into Flame, Am I Savage?, Halo on Fire, Confusion, Dream No More, ManUNkind, Here Comes Revenge, Murder One and Spit Out the Bone.
As with everything Metallica have released since their iconic 1986 album Master of Puppets, the fan response to Hardwired has been mixed:
So Metallica's new song eh..

It's been so long since they've released something that's a really good listen so I really like it.
Metallica rule of thumb dictates this next album is gonna suck. I already hate the artwork and name...

@Metallica Meh... Just seems tired... I've been fan since I was teenager, but there is so much more progressive metal out there to listen to

The new Metallica song is like a cross between a Megadeath and Slayer track. Not bad I suppose.
