Corkman and chatshow king Graham Norton has been singing the praises of The Young Offenders, a new Irish comedy inspired by the true story of Ireland's biggest cocaine seizure in 2007.

The film, which hits Irish cinemas next month, tells the story of best friends Conor and Jock, two inner-city teenagers from Cork.

When a drug-trafficking boat capsizes off the coast of West Cork and 61 bales of cocaine, each worth €7m are seized, word gets out that there’s a bale missing. The boys steal two bikes and go on a road trip to find bale 62 but not everything goes to plan.

Speaking about the film, Norton said, "A classic movie double act is born! It captures everything that makes Ireland so special - it's very funny, outrageous, and full of heart. Sell all your cocaine and buy a ticket to see this film!"

The debut feature from Peter Foott, The Young Offenders stars Cork natives Chris Walley and Alex Murphy as well as well-known comedians PJ Gallagher of Naked Camera fame and Hilary Rose, who appeared on RTÉ's The Republic of Telly

Since its world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh last month, where it picked up the Best Irish Film award, the film has received praise from critics and audiences.

The film, which will have the widest release of any Irish film so far this year, will have a Cork premiere on August 24 and a Dublin premiere on September 8th, before opening across Ireland a week later.

53-year-old Norton, who was born in Clondalkin, Dublin but raised in Bandon, paid a visit to Cork last month when he was quiz master for the fourth year running at a pub quiz in Ahakista to raise funds for the development of the Ahakista Community Association site.
