Police have said that they will not be investigating the death of comedian and producer David Gest.
The 62-year-old American’s death was originally being treated as “unexplained” after he was found dead on April 12 this year in his London hotel room.
Now however, Scotland Yard have confirmed it is now treating his death as “non-suspicious”, following newspaper reports that he died “of natural causes”.
David Gest, on Celebrity Big Brother
According to The Sun, the entertainer died of a stroke.
The newspaper has said that Gest's US attorney Edward Bearman confirmed that “I've been told David died from a stroke”.
Gest became a household name in 2002 after marrying actress and singer Liza Minnelli in a ceremony that included both Michael Jackson as best man and Elizabeth Taylor as maid of honour.
The relationship lasted just 18 months and there followed an acrimonious divorce battle, although the final settlement took place outside court.
Gest’s production credits include Michael Jackson: 30th Anniversary Celebration: The Solo Years in 2001, which is the highest-rated musical television special in history, and which was also the last reunion of Michael Jackson with the Jacksons in 17 years.
He also produced Jackson's final solo concerts.
Gest, alongside ex-wife Liza Minnelli
Gest gained a following outside of the US after multiple appearances on British reality TV shows such as ‘I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!’ and ‘Celebrity Big Brother’.
It’s understood the former music manager had spent around 6 months living at the Four Seasons Hotel in Canary Wharf in London, and had not been seen for the two days prior to his body being found.
According to reports, Gest had been suffering from ill health for several months and was taking medication to treat pneumonia at the time of his death.
