US network ABC has said it has held talks with Star Wars makers Lucasfilm about bringing the sci-fi blockbuster to television as a primetime series.
Lucasfilm and ABC both have the same parent company, Disney, and ABC has already brought Disney's Marvel shows (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D and Agent Carter) and The Muppets series reboot to the small screen.
At the Television Critics Association's press tour in Beverly Hills, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey was asked about Star Wars joining its schedule.
"As a fan, I would absolutely love to say 'yes'," said Dungey. "We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise."

EW.com, the website of Entertainment Weekly in the US, says that after taking part in a panel discussion, Dungey was again asked about the project, which she described as "all a little bit hush-hush".
"That company [Lucasfilm] exists under a big shroud of secrecy. If you feel Marvel's secretive, [Lucasfilm] takes it to a whole other level… [Talks] are ongoing. We don't have an official timeline yet."
Talks about a Star Wars series are nothing new: at one stage 50 scripts were written for a project with cost the ultimate stumbling block.
There have been a number of Star Wars animated spin-off series, including Star Wars Rebels, Star Wars: Droids and Star Wars: Clone Wars. Three made-for-TV movies have also aired, with 1978's infamous Star Wars Holiday Special a CV entry that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and others would rather forget.
The Holiday Special, which 'topped' the poll in the book What Were They Thinking?: The 100 Dumbest Events in Television History, marked the first appearance of Star Wars icon Boba Fett, but also introduced fans - tragically - to Chewbacca's family: wife Malla, son Lumpy and father Itchy,.
The upcoming Star Wars spin-off movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which takes place before events in the original 1977 classic, is released on December 16.
The follow-up to The Force Awakens, Star Wars: Episode VIII, is currently filming and is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
