Fans of Bridget Jones are going to be spoilt this Autumn as not only can they look forward to the third screen outing of the hapless singleton but there's also a new book due from author Helen Fielding.
The new book Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries, is due out on October 11 and will tie-in with the movie of the same name which is released a month earlier.
The book is based on Fielding’s newspaper columns for the London Independent newspaper and traces Bridget's journey from singleton to mum and just like the movie asks "Who is the father?"
It follows on from her other best-sellers in the series, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Bridget Jones: the Edge of Reason and another tale Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy which appeared in 2013 and caused a lot of anguish amongst fans as it killed off Mark Darcy.
That book, in which a 51-year-old Bridget begins dating again four years after Mark Darcy's death, wasn't used as template for the latest film, Bridget Jones Baby. It sees Renee Zellweger's Bridget single again and trying to figure out if the father is her old flame Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) or the dishier Jack, played by Patrick Dempsey.
Author Helen Fielding today didn't reveal much about the plot only revealing that "Bridget Jones is about the gap between how we all feel we're expected to be and how we actually are and – as Bridget discovers with her somewhat bumpy pregnancy - how we expect life to turn out and how it actually does..".
The original Bridget Jones' Diary movie is one of the most successful British comedies in cinema history, grossing over €200 million worldwide since its 2000 release.
Its follow-up, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, was released in 2004 to less critical acclaim.Three different endings have been shot for Bridget Jones's Baby, so not even the cast know the ultimate outcome.
Bridget Jones's Baby is due on September 16 while the book Bridget Jones’s Baby: The Diaries is out on October 11.
