He may have not loved his boyband experience, but it has been reported that Zayn Malik is going to channel his time in One Direction into helping to executive produce a new TV show from the makers of Entourage.

The 23-year-old singer shocked fans when he departed 1D in March 2015, and has since gone on to forge a successful solo career with the release of his debut album Mind Of Mine.

Now, the solo star is said to be making his first foray into television by executive producing a TV series about a One Direction-style group, The Sun reports.

"This is a big deal for Zayn," a source said. "He has been keen to get stuck into different projects outside of music and this is the perfect move.

"It’s a subject he knows lots about and he will call upon his experiences to advise the scriptwriters on the show.

"If the series does well, he’ll receive plenty of kudos in the industry."

Malik's spokesperson has not commented on the reports.

The series is being produced by the makers of the hit comedy Entourage, which ran for eight series on HBO and had a film spin-off last year.

Malik recently voiced an interest into branching into acting, like his former 1D bandmate Harry Styles.

"I started acting when I was in school with theatre studies and then music came after," he told ELLE UK.

"It completely stopped when I joined the band but I'd definitely be interested if I was given the right role."
