Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson, who plays bluff Northerner Jim McDonald may return to the popular soap . The 56-year-old actor is reported to be meeting the show's new executive producer in August.

Lawson quit Coronation Street in 2000 after 11 years playing Jim, but he has made brief cameos on the ITV soap on a number of occasions since.

"I was meant to go back last year but in the end I was too busy, “ he told the Daily Star. “The character is alive and well and talked about fairly frequently on the show. While he's alive there's always that possibility. If I'm free then I always like to go back because I’m very proud of the character.

Meanwhile, a reported 17 actors have taken holidays from Corrie at the same time. According to The Sun on Sunday, cast members Tina O'Brien, Daniel Brocklebank, Kate Ford and Lucy Fallon, along with various other stars, have been allowed holiday leave.

A Coronation Street spokeswoman denied there were any scheduling problems resulting from holiday leave. "There is no issue at all with the number of people on holiday, " she told The Sun on Sunday. "All cast holidays are spaced out to accommodate story-lines and scheduling."
