Ken Barrie the voice of the children's television show Postman Pat died aged 83 after a battle with cancer.
A family member recently confirmed with BBC News that the voice actor had died peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a short battle with liver cancer.
Barrie was the original voice behind the beloved children’s character Postman Pat working on 31 episodes between 1980-2005. He also voiced several other characters in the sweet and wholesome town of Greendale: Ted Glen, the Reverend Peter Timms and farmer Alf Thompson.
“He was the master of different characters and voices. He was very reserved about what he did, but he loved it and got to work with his heroes.”- his daughter Lorainne Peterson told press
Not only did Bairre have a flair for children's television but also for music. He enjoyed a successful music career that included working on advertising jingles for Smash and Martini, featuring on an album with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby as well as topping the charts on Peter Kay’s Animated All Star Band for the BBC’s Children in Need Medley in 2009.
“We are celebrating his life today. He was very proud of what he did for children, but his legacy is not so much Postman Pat – he did a lot more and he loved singing after starting in the late 1950s"- Peterson
