Here's some news that should be like a spoonful of sugar for fans of the Disney classic Mary Poppins. Oscar winner Meryl Streep is said to be in talks to reunite with her Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt on a sequel to the much loved movie about the English nanny.

According to Variety, Streep is being lined up to play Mary's cousin Topsy Tartlet in the movie, Mary Poppins Returns, which will be set in depression era London and features Poppins (Emily Blunt) helping the now grown Banks children overcome a bereavement.

The film would reunite Streep for the third time with Blunt after The Devil Wears Prada and the musical Into the Woods which was directed by Rob Marshall. He's already signed up to direct the new Poppins movie and fans can once again expect to see Streep and Blunt singing together.

The film is due for release on Christmas Day, 2018.

Streep was seen earlier this week at the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia showing her delight at the prospect of Hilary Clinton securing the party's nomination for President.
