Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones has thanked fans for their love and support as she makes her return to Twitter, having left the social media website after being subjected to racist abuse.

Earlier this week, Jones called on Twitter to take more action against online abuse after she became the victim of a bombardment of racist tweets from other users.

Jones made the decision to share the racist tweets that people had been sending her to open people's eyes to the "BS" she has had to endure.

"I feel like I'm in a personal hell," she wrote. "I didn't do anything to deserve this. It's just too much. It shouldn't be like this. So hurt right now."

She then revealed that she was planning to leave Twitter, saying, "I leave Twitter tonight with tears and a very sad heart. All this cause I did a movie. You can hate the movie but the shit I got today... wrong."

Making her return, Jones said, "Welp... a b**** thought she could stay away. But who else is gonna live tweet Game of Thrones!!"

She then thanked her fans saying, "Thanks for the real love and support I received! Made me feel real special."

Jones' comeback comes after Twitter permanently suspended a number of accounts, including the suspected ringleader, who were involved in the barrage of tweets against the star.
