RTÉ unveiled its coverage of the 2016 Rio Olympics today and the hosts, including David Gillick, Derval O'Rourke and the true legend that is Jimmy Magee, say they can't wait for Olympic flame to be lit.

All of the presenters will be responsible for guiding viewers through a mammoth 280 hours of TV coverage while fans will also be able to keep up to date with events in Rio on RTE Radio and online.

While all the main sporting disciplines will be covered, special attention will be given to all seventy-seven members of Team Ireland including Katie Taylor, Michael Conlan, Padraig Harrington and Dan Martin.

One man who's taking it all in his stride is veteran broadcaster Jimmy Magee, who this year will be celebrating his fifteenth - yes fifteenth - Olympics. He told RTÉ Entertainment today that Ireland are once again in strong contention for medals in boxing and made some bold predictions for the likes of Michael Conlon, Paddy Barnes and Katie Taylor, saying we could easily bring home four medals.

Panelist and former athlete Derval O'Rourke is no stranger to the Olympics either and says she still holds very emotional memories of competing in the games.

"Coming out in the opening ceremony in Athens in 2004 - I was still very young and was one of the youngest members of the team. I remember it was such a huge occasion to be part of, and to be part of Team Ireland", she said.

"Then at the London Olympics, it felt very much like having an Olympics at home....I remember my name being announced and I got a massive cheer, probably one of the biggest cheers I ever got in my career. So London was quite a special place."

Another TV host who needs no introduction is athlete David Gillick who will be based in Rio for the duration of the summer Olympics. He told RTÉ Entertainment he'll be bringing viewers first hand accounts of the athletic events, including interviews with the competitors.

"I'm going to be in the stadium, doing a lot of interviews trackside with the Irish and international athletes...so you're going to get instant reaction from the tracks and the athletes and really be in the moment to showcase that experience and show what it's really like in that cauldron of competition".
