Haim have cancelled their European tour, including their performance at Electric Picnic, to focus on finishing their long-awaited second album.

Sisters Este, Danielle and Alana Haim, and drummer Dash Hutton were set to embark on a tour of Europe over the coming months with dates in Switzerland, Poland and the Reading and Leeds Festival, also among on their schedule.

Taking to Twitter to share the news with their fans, the LA band uploaded a handwritten note which reads, "We'd hope to be done with recording but as it turns out, we're at a critical point of finishing and need to stay close to home until it's complete.

"Unfortunately, we need to cancel our European performances including Way Out West, Tivoli, Oya, Frequency, Krakow, Zurich Open Air, Reading & Leeds and Electric Picnic. We hate to disappoint you guys that had plans to come see us and promise we'll be back in the near future to share our new music with you."

The band are expected to fulfil their touring commitments in America in October.

Haim released their debut album, Days are Gone, to commercial and critical success in 2013. They were praised for their mix of pop smarts, classic FM radio influences, and indie sensibility. They released a total of six singles from the debut - Forever, Don't Save Me, Falling, The Wire, If I Could Change Your Mind and My Song 5.

Days are Gone was a No 4 hit on the Irish album charts.

This year's Electric Picnic takes place in Stradbally, Co Laois from September 2 to 4 with LCD Soundsystem, Lana Del Rey and the Chemical Brothers among the headliners.
