All promotional material for Idris Elba's thriller, Bastille Day, has been withdrawn in France in the wake of Thursday night's terror attack in Nice which 84 people lost their lives.

The movie, which has already screened in Ireland back in April, opened in France on Wednesday to coincide with the national holiday and stars Elba as a CIA agent trying to thwart a terrorist attack in Paris in which Richard Madden (Robb Stark in Game of Thrones) is unwittingly caught up in.

It had already been put back for release in the wake of the November terrorist attacks in Paris and is now playing to over two hundred cinemas across France.

The movie had been marketed with the tagline - Cette Année, Le Feu d’Artifice C’est Eux (“This year, they are the fireworks”).

StudioCanal has now pulled its advertising in France but the studio says the movie will continue to be screened but added that it's up to individual cinemas to decide if they want to to pull the film.

The movie was a modest box-office hit when it was released in the States and over here a few months ago. RTÉ Entertainment described the movie as "a bit of a Bourne-lite adventure, and at times it makes Star Wars look like a documentary but the slick pace and fine chemistry between the two leads make it a hugely enjoyable yarn."
