Coronation Street viewers have been left reeling after the tragic death of Kylie Platt on last night's episode of the show.

In some of the soap's most tear-jerking scenes ever, the nail technician passed away in her husband David's arms after being stabbed by Callum Logan's dangerous friend Clayton, just as she was preparing to celebrate her move to Barbados.

Clayton first attacked Gemma outside the kebab shop and Kylie rushed to help her, but Clatyon quickly turned on her and stabbed her with his knife, before running off, leaving Kylie covered in blood.

The harrowing scenes continued with a severely injured Kylie collapsing in David's arms and telling him he needed to carry on for their children.

Despite his desperate attempts to keep her alive, Kylie died just as the ambulance crew arrived. It was left to David to tell her young children Max and Lily that she is not coming home.

Next week's episodes will see a heartbroken but determined David seek to get revenge on those responsible for her death.

Kylie's death had been a closely guarded secret before Friday's double episode. Jack P. Shepherd, who has played David for 16 years, said filming the Kylie death scenes took a toll and said that he he cried when he read the scripts for the first time.

"When the cameras stopped filming, I couldn't stop crying. The tears were very real. The script is superb - every word, every moment of the scene was exactly right. They are the most moving scenes I have ever had to film."

Coronation Street has also released a new behind-the-scenes video showing Paula Lane filming Kylie Platt's tragic demise.

After the show aired, actress Lane tweeted that she loved "every second" of her time on the street.

Viewers have reacted with sorrow to the tragic scenes. It was known that Kylie would die in Friday's episode, but details of her demise had not been made known.
