Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry is in a stable condition in hospital after taking ill while playing a gig with the Hollywood Vampires in Brooklyn, New York on Sunday night.

Perry and Hollywood Vampires bandmates Alice Cooper and Johnny Depp were two songs into their set at the Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island when the guitarist became unwell and sat down on Matt Sorum's drum riser. He then stopped playing and left the stage.

During the third song, a cover of David Bowie's Rebel, Rebel, the 65-year-old is reported to have collapsed behind the stage. He was treated by medics at the venue before being taken to hospital. The New York Police Department told ABC News that once Perry's condition was stable he was transferred to the city's Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.

After the show, singer Cooper tweeted: "Thanks to everyone asking about our brother Joe Perry. He is stable right now, with family and is under the best care." The same information was carried on the band and Perry's Twitter accounts.
