Ahead of their dates in Dublin and Cork next week, indie giants Pixies have announced details of their new album Head Carrier. And they've “officially” welcomed their new bass player to their permanent line-up.
The band, who play Live at The Marquee in Cork on July 13 and a sold-out show at Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens on July 14, release what they’re styling their "post-reunion" album on September 30 with the first single, Um Chagga Lagga, available now.
The 12-track collection is described by the band as a "unique aural mix of surrealism, psychedelia, dissonance and surf rock". It was produced by Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) and recorded at London's Rak Studios from mid-February through to mid-March this year. The album art is by the band's long-time art director, Vaughan Oliver.
Argentine-American musician Paz Lenchantin has now been "officially" welcomed to the fold. She first joined Pixies as their touring bassist in January 2014, having played with the likes of Entrance, A Perfect Circle, Queens of The Stone Age and Zwan.
She replaced founding band member Kim Deal and touring bassist Kim Shattuck and can be heard singing lead on new album track All I Think About Now.

"I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal," said Lenchantin. "There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals.
"I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie. We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward."
The track for Head Carrier is: Head Carrier, Classic Masher, Baal’s Back, Might As Well Be Gone, Oona, Talent, Tenement Song, Bel Esprit, All I Think About Now, Um Chagga Lagga, Plaster Of Paris, All The Saints
