Mumford & Sons have vowed to never play at the Bravalla music festival in Sweden again until security has improved following claims that a number of concert-goers were subjected to sexual assaults.

The British band said they were “appalled” and “gutted” by reports of five rapes and more than a dozen suspected sexual assaults at the festival in Norrkoping, south-west of Stockholm.

Taking to their official Facebook page, band members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane said they are "gutted" by what they called "these hideous reports" and revealed they won't play the festival again "until we've assurances from the police" about the safety at the event.

Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven described the attacks as "totally unacceptable" and said laws on sexual assault would be tightened.

"In addition, it is also important that we continue to make sure the police, prosecutors and other authorities get better at investigating these crimes so that we make sure we actually convict the perpetrators."

The attacks unfortunately aren't an isolated incident with similar attacks reported at the famous Roskilde rock festival in Denmark recently including five cases of alleged rape, while there also reports of female concert-goers being assaulted at Sweden's Putte I Parken festival last week.
