Luther star Idris Elba is going behind the lens to direct his first movie, an adaptation of the Victor Headley crime novel Yardie.
Yardie tells the story of D, a cocaine courier tasked with smuggling a kilo of the drug from Jamaica to London in the 1980s. However, D sees a business opportunity for himself en route.
US film industry website Indiewire reports that it is possible that Elba may also take the lead role in the film, which is due to go into production by the end of the year.
Elba has racked up over a dozen credits as a producer, including Luther and the films Beasts of No Nation and No Good Deed.
