Tributes have been paid to the well know broadcaster and GAA commentator Séamus Mac Géidigh who has died suddenly at the age of 54.
He was the manager of RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta’s northwest service at Doirí Beaga, Co Donegal and had been working with the station since 1988.
Mac Géidigh was passionate about Gaelic football, and was a much-respected commentator on Gaelic Games and had earned the title "the Donegal voice of Gaelic Games commentary".
Last Saturday, just two days before his sudden passing, he was commentator at the Donegal Vs Monaghan senior football replay in Cavan. He had also travelled to Bordeaux just a few weeks ago to commentate on the Ireland Vs Belgium match in the European Football Championship.
Aogán Ó Fearghail, the President of the GAA, paid tribute to Séamus on RnaG earlier today to his contribution to the association and for his passion for the Irish language. Kevin Bakhurst, the Acting Director General of RTÉ, also paid tribute to the late broadcaster.
"I'm deeply saddened to hear the news of Séamus' death. He was a highly respected journalist and broadcaster and will be greatly missed by colleagues across the organisation. My thoughts and condolences are with his family and friends at this time", said Mr Bakhurst.
Séamus is survived by his wife Dolores and their three children Dónal, Éadaoin and Póilín.
