Coronation Street actress Paula Lane has said her character's forthcoming death scene will be a first in the world of soap.

The Corrie favourite has played Kylie Platt since 2010 and her final episodes begin broadcasting next Monday, July 11.

Lane spoke about the "gut-wrenching" decision to kill off Kylie ahead of her departure from the long-running ITV show.

She said: "I'm not just saying this because I'm involved, but I don't think I've ever read an ending like it. It's almost not Corrie, if you know what I mean, it's very different."

She added: "It's something that's never been done in soap before and I think the audience are going to get a real sense of shock and surprise."

During Kylie's six years on the cobbles, the troubled mother has been at the centre of some high-profile story lines.

In 2015 during a live episode of Coronation Street, she murdered bad 'un Callum Logan (Sean Ward) to stop him from harming her sister-in-law Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien).

The Platts buried him under their house, but a guilt-ridden Kylie has buckled under the pressure.

With the late Tony Stewart (Terence Maynard) in the frame for Callum's death, Kylie's husband David (Jack P Shepherd) believes they are all home and dry.

But Kylie remains uncomfortable about letting an innocent dead man take the blame for a crime she committed.

Lane: "I want it to be that I leave the audience wanting more."

Kylie suggests the family leave Weatherfield and put the events of the past year behind them. But their excitement and future plans are cut short by Kylie's unexpected death.

Lane, 30, said: "You don't get to have that kind of exit every day and people will really remember it so I am chuffed to pieces. I want it to be that I leave the audience wanting more."
